Best Way to Clean a Blender

For most of my life I was cleaning a blender the hard and more time consuming way. I'm guessing you do the same thing: you put some soapy water in the blender, reach down inside with a dish rag, and try to carefully clean the blades without getting poked or cut. It takes a long time and you're never certain you got all the food cleaned out.

A few years ago I realized there was a simpler way.

This cleaning method works best if you do it immediately after using the blender.

1) Do a quick rinse to get rid of any extra food in the blender.
2) Add some water, no more than half full, with a couple of drops of dish soap.
3) Blend, increasing the speed until the soapy water reaches the top of the inside of the blender but does not overflow. Continue to blend until the inside looks clean, and then rinse.

Easy! It only takes about 15 - 30 seconds or so.

This technique has really come in handy because we make a lot of smoothies. We are more likely to want to make a smoothie if cleaning isn't a pain.

Incidentally, if you are looking for a good blender for smoothies or anything else, consider getting a Vitamix blender. It's the only blender we've had that blends everything without leaving some chunks of fruit at the bottom or sides.
